Adele Raises Her Middle Finger at 2012 BRIT Awards, Says It’s for ‘the Suits’
Being annoyed that her speech was cut short, the ‘Rolling in the Deep’ hitmaker says before showing the rude gesture, ‘Goodbye and I’ll see you next time round.’Adele has been caught on camera flipping the bird on the stage of 2012 BRIT Awards on Tuesday, February 21. The singer was upset that host James Corden interrupted her when she’s in the middle of delivering her acceptance speech after nabbing British Album of the Year.
The host, who was about to introduce Blur, said when stopping Adele, “I’m so sorry, can I just cut off?” It prompted the “Someone Like You” hitmaker to reply, “Are you about to cut me off? Can I just say then, goodbye and I’ll see you next time round.” She flashed the rude gesture before leaving the stage.
Prior to the incident, Adele told the crowd, “Thank you so much, thank you, thank you very, very much.” She added, “Nothing beats coming home with six Grammys and then coming to the Brits and winning album of the year. I’m so proud to be flying the British flag for all of you.”
Later in the evening, Adele explained her obscene gesture. “I was about to thank the British public for their support. They cut me off, sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me,” she said. “I got cut off during my speech and flung the middle finger. But that finger was to the suits at the Brit Awards, not to my fans.”
Before winning album of the year, Adele grabbed a gong for British Female Solo Artist. “Oh my god. Thank you so much… I’m shaking,” she said and thanked her record company “for letting me be the kind of artist I wanted to be.” She added, “To all the fans no one’s made me feel like I’ve had to be any different.”
Beside Adele, Rihanna and Bruno Mars also won at the event by nailing International Female Solo Artist and International Male Solo Artist respectively. Riri was triumphant over Beyonce Knowles, Bjork, Feist and Lady GaGa. Meanwhile, Mars beat Aloe Blacc, Bon Iver, David Guetta and Ryan Adams.
