Cee-Lo Green Coachella Fest Mess – “Forget You” Star Storms Off Stage
Organizers of the celeb-lauded Coachella Muscial Festival sent a great big “Forget You!” to former Goodie Mob/Gnarls Barkley frontman Cee-Lo Green earlier this weekend.
The Grammy-nominated star was left fuming after his set at this year’s annual arts and music fest was cut short, CNN said Sunday. Cee-Lo insisted that his delayed flight to the rural region of Indio, California was to blame for him showing up 25 minutes late for his Saturday afternoon set. Of course, that didn’t protect him from the boos and jeers of disgruntled fans who spent hours in the hot sun anticipating his performance.
“Sorry guys, I just landed. Y’all still gonna party with me? I only have 20 minutes. It ain’t my fault. They should have… given me a better time slot,” Cee-Lo said before performing five songs, including the unedited version of his viral smash “Forget You” as well as a cover of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’.
It was all a bit too little, too late for Coachella fans. They sat motionless as an angry Green continued to vent. He finally got the boot when the audio to his mic was cut off abruptly. Incensed, Cee-Lo responded by leaving the stage in a huff. He reportedly proceeded to put a towel on top of his head and storm off stage, before throwing the towel to the ground.
In an ironic turn of events, Lauryn Hill, who has been raked over the coals in recent months for bursting in up to two hours late to a host of gigs on her current concert tour, was uncharacteristically right on time for the first time in recent memory. (We are, after all, talking about the same woman who kept a DC audience waiting as she received a manicure back in 2009.) L-Boogie followed Cee-Lo onstage and performed a compilation of the hits featured on her classic 1998 album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, to the acclaim of the enthusiastic audience.
We love you, the five-time Grammy Award winner told the Coachella crowd.
The three-day Coachella Festival will close on Sunday, following a showstopping performance by hip-hopster Kanye West.
Let’s hope he sets his alarm clock!
