Demi Lovato on Punching Dancer: I Felt Like She’d Betrayed Me
Aside from addressing the incident that led to her stint in rehab, the former ‘Sonny with a Chance’ star insists that she wouldn’t blame Joe Jonas for her meltdown.Demi Lovato has opened up even more about her 2010 altercation with Alex Welch. Featured in the September issue of Elle magazine, the former star of “Sonny with a Chance” admitted to punching the backup dancer on a flight to Peru while on tour with Jonas Brothers because she felt betrayed.
“I just felt like she’d betrayed me. That’s the bottom line,” the 18-year-old simply said. Thankfully, the incident got her realizing she had spiraled out of control. “When you punch someone on a plane, enough is enough,” she shared. “Right after, I texted my mom and just said, ‘I’m sorry.’ ”
During the chat, the “Skyscraper” singer also acknowledged that she was “completely out of line all summer”, adding “Just the worst attitude, totally ungrateful…” Still, she wouldn’t put the blame on her break-up with Joe Jonas. “I wouldn’t credit my meltdown to a guy,” she stressed. “There was so much other stuff in my life.”
Demi also talked about gummy bracelet excuse her PR team issued when red carpet photos of her expose four fading scabs on her left wrist. “I don’t think I would have been ready to talk about [my problems] then, but I could’ve come up with something better than gummy bracelets,” she clarified. “Needless to say, that publicist is no longer with us. [Pause] I mean, she’s alive.”
On being a bully victim when she was younger, the older sister of child star Madison De La Garza said, “Those girls never gave me an explanation for why they were bullying me.” She added, “One of the words they called me was fat. At that age, you think, ‘Oh, so I don’t have friends because I’m fat.’ ”
