Enrique Iglesias L.A. Reid Courted For “The X Factor”

A second-generation balladeer and the hotshot record executive responsible for catapulting the careers of ’80s pop star Pebbles, Pink, and Rihanna are the latest names being linked to the Stateside edition of Simon Cowell’s TV talent show The X Factor, premiering on FOX this summer.
With less than two weeks to go before the first round of auditions, the American X Factor panel has gained another judge. Cowell is said to have appointed Island Def Jam chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid to be one of the four judges. The 54-year-old record executive and music producer has helped launch the careers of Mariah Carey, Kayne West, and Justin Bieber.
“It’s a done deal,” says an insider close to the discussions, who says that an official announcement will be made this week.
Reid was cryptic when asked about the prospect of joining the panel back in February. He would only say:
“I think music on television certainly has a place and it’s important. In some ways, TV has become as impactful as radio once was. It’s just another way of doing it. You can find music on American Idol, on YouTube, on KIIS-FM or on a mixed tape. The more platforms we have, the better off we are as an industry.”
Nicole Scherzinger, Mariah Carey, Cheryl Cole, and Tommy Mottola are just a few of the names who’ve been tossed around as potential panelist for The X Factor.
Expected to accept Ryan Seacrest duties on the show is “Bailamos” singer Enrique Iglesias. Deadline Hollywood informants says Enrique has been approached about hosting the new FOX series, although its not clear that he wants the job. The “I Like It” star did, however, perform for Simon on the UK version of the show last year.
