Geraldine Ferrero Dead At 75
Political trailblazer Geraldine Ferrero has died.
The lawmaker passed away on Saturday surrounded by her loved ones at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. “Gerry,” as she was known, had been battling blood cancer for more than a decade.
In a distant era before the media onslaught of Sarah Palin (There was a time…), Ferrero became the first woman to run for Vice-President on a major party ticket when the little known New York State Congresswoman was tapped as Democrat Walter Mondale’s running mate against Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush in 1984, She was also the first person of Italian-American descent featured on such a prominent political ticket.
