Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Punted Off Plane

In what seems to be a situation wherein Green Day’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong was kind of a jerk and a flight attendant was a bit of a control-freak, Armstrong was recently kicked off a Southwest Airlines flight.
For having saggy pants.
No, seriously.
Before last Thursday’s Oakland-to-Burbank flight took off, the flight attendant apparently asked him to pull up his pants. He refused, adding “don’t you have better things to do than worry about that?”, which was really stupid because dude, they’re just pants, and the flight from Oakland to Burbank is like four minutes long so it’s not like you’d have to look like a normal person all day or anything.
Also, sassing a crew member on a plane is a good way to earn yourself a trip back to the terminal. Which is exactly what happened. (An ABC news producer from Oakland was on the same flight and backs up the story.)
Right after the incident, Armstrong tweeted, “Just got kicked off a southwest flight because my pants sagged too low! What the f***? No joke!”
In the end Armstrong took the next flight to Burbank and everything was resolved, with Southwest issuing the following statement:
As soon as we became aware of what had happened, we reached out to apologize for this Customer’s experience. He elected to take the next flight. We followed up with this Customer and involved Employees to get more details and, in our latest conversations, understand from the Customer the situation was resolved to his satisfaction.
The whole saggy pants trend is incredibly stupid — it makes guys walk like penguins (sexy!) and if they’re ever being chased by someone with a knife, they’re gonna wish they had a bit more freedom of movement. But a flight attendant taking on the dual role of Fashion Cop is a bit of a stretch too.
Let’s just call this one a draw.
