Hailee Steinfeld Too Young to Do ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Naked Scene

© GHOST/Fame Pictures Director Carlo Carlei says the original scipt of the movie, which required the Juliet depicter to get undressed, has been adjusted soon after the 14-year-old ‘True Grit’ actress was cast.It is confirmed that 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld will not “bare it all” for the forthcoming remake film of “Romeo and Juliet”. The director of the latest William Shakespeare’s script-adapted movie has said that several adjustments, such as excluding the nude and lovemaking scenes, have been made due to the actress’ young age.
Talking about his latest project to Entertainment Weekly, director Carlo Carlei explained that there was actually a nudity part in the original script of “Romeo and Juliet”. He said, “In the original adaptation written by the Oscar-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes, there was a lovemaking scene that included nudity for the married Romeo and Juliet.”
However, the Italian director made sure that that the “True Grit” star will not do the X-rated scenes in his upcoming film. “This script was written with a 20-year-old actress in mind. As soon as Hailee Steinfeld was cast, all nudity and lovemaking have been excised from the script,” he said. “It will be romantic and age-appropriate for a 14-year-old.”
Hailee has been cast to play Juliet, while Kodi Smit-McPhee is expected to portray Romeo. “I’m doing ‘Romeo & Juliet’ this summer, so I’m getting really into that,” the brunette beauty said last May. “Juliet is obviously very different from my role in ‘True Grit’ so I love that. I love the fact that it’s very different, so I’m excited to explore a new side.”
On why he picked the young actress to play in the classic movie, screenwriter Julian Fellowes said, “I wanted Hailee because she is the perfect age. Juliet is at that age of… what you might call a child/woman. Just like Hailee herself is.” He added, “My version is a romantic story, one that keeps pretty true to Shakespeare but is, I hope, more accessible.”
