MTV UK Launches British “Jersey Shore” Spinoff “Geordie Shore”
We aren’t sure what the Brits did to deserve being punished with their own spawn of the oversexed and heavily-gelled cast of MTV’s record-setting phenomenon Jersey Shore, but ready or not, Welsh-accented versions of Snooki, Pauly D, and Sammi Sweetheart are about to impact the small screen across the pond…with a tub of gin and a side of English muffins.
Geordie Shore focuses on the drunken, shallow misadventures of a group of party people in England’s own Newcastle. Earlier this year, our friends to the North got their own Jersey Shore spinoff when a Canadian television network debuted Lakeshore. Now the UK is bracing itself for an onslaught of tanning lotion and ethnic stereotypes with this week’s debut of the fly-on-wall Geordie. Set for premiere on MTV UK, Music Television producers are sticking to the format that turned their Stateside Shore into a goldmine. Sure, they don’t have fistpumping down pat yet, but make no mistakes about it, the kids of Geordie Shore can curse, pose, and jiggle their parts with the best of ‘em.
First up, there’s 23-year-old tiler Gaz, the Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino of this organization. He claims to have photographic evidence proving that he’s got a peen bigger than a TV remote. How charming. In case you hadn’t noticed, Gaz simply can’t stop gabbing about his prowess between the sheets. (A typical defense mechanism for folks who haven’t got much going on between their ears…). He promises to be the “best lover” any woman has ever had and keeps a scrapbook filled with photos of all the barflies he’s conquered. At last tally, the number stood at 64.
Joining Gaz on the show are loan advisor Holly, whose favorite trick is downing shots of Tequila as they sit balanced between her fake FF bust. It’s a real crowd pleaser at parties. Then there’s former lap dancer Sophie — a girl with a habit of flashing her breasts in bars. And how could we forget Vicky? She’s got a well-deserved reputation for getting into fights and pouring drinks over the head of her challenger.
